The Ring Saver: Tips & Tricks Thursday

Welcome back to Tips & Tricks Thursday! This little corner of the blog is devoted to those simple ideas that make life better or easier in some way. :)

Hi, friends! This is going to be a very quick post, but I wanted to share a simple solution that has helped me out. :)

The Tip: Mount a hook in your kitchen to hold your rings.

I can't take credit for this idea. Noreen over at Crafty Journal shared her tip to mount a cup hook inside a cabinet to keep rings safe. I chose use a clear command hook {affiliate link} so I didn't have to put a hole in the cabinet. And I hung it on the outside of the cabinet, mostly because I missed the part about putting it inside (whoops), but also as a visual reminder to put it back on. I don't mind that it's on the outside, though because the hook blends in pretty well.
Not that noticeable, right?

Why I love it:

I take my rings off all the time in the kitchen for making bread or handling raw meat (like the Turkey Cheddar Burgers I shared yesterday). After all, I don't want all the gunk from hands-on cooking to get caught in my engagement ring. Up until a few weeks ago, I would either tuck my wedding rings in my pocket or lay them on the counter. A few hours later when I realized I wasn't wearing them, the (sometimes frantic) search would begin.

Now that my rings have a home on the hook, I don't feel that panic when I realize they aren't on. Just this week, as I was about to fall asleep for the night, I realized I wasn't wearing my rings. Instead of getting up, disturbing Hubby, and launching a frantic search, I rolled over and fell asleep, knowing they were safely hanging on the hook until morning. It's amazing how such a simple change can make a difference!

What do you do with your rings when you're cooking?

Have a tip, trick, or simple helpful hint to share? You are more than welcome to submit your idea here. I'd love to include it in a future post!

    1. Thanks, Rachel! I love vertical storage in favor of clutter (especially because clutter seems to breed at our house). :)

  2. Sadly...I wear mine and de-gunk later because I would be one of the frantic-search-people. I have a simple wedding band, but at times it has been crusted with dried dough (that involved soaking my hands a while), etc. I really like the command hook idea (especially for hanging pot holders) because I am NOT a fan of holes in the wall and the hook that is presently in the wall to do so just spins and makes a bigger hole.

    1. That's a great idea, Susan! We currently keep our potholders in a drawer - they get so dingy that I hate hanging them out in the open.
As for the rings, my engagement ring is actually a family heirloom and it's a HUGE pain to try to get all the gunk out of the setting. I've soaked it and used toothpicks to get stuff out before, but it's just not worth to clean it every time, especially as much as I get my hands dirty. :)
