Tips & Tricks Thursday: An Easy Fix for Scuffed Shoes

Welcome back to Tips & Tricks Thursday! This little corner of the blog is devoted to those simple ideas that make life better or easier in some way. :)

The Tip: Make shoe scuffs less obvious with a crayon.

Scuffs happen on kids' shoes. Especially if you have a toddler, they are simply unavoidable. Kiddo's church shoes were getting pretty beaten up from our walks to and from the car on Sunday mornings, and I was tired of looking at those gray marks on the toes. Since they're fake leather, shoe polish wouldn't work well, and from past attempts, I knew that black permanent marker would leave an unattractive purplish sheen.
As fast as Kiddo grows out of them, I wasn't going to buy a new pair of shoes, but I still wanted him to look his "Sunday best." So, I took a non-washable black crayon and colored all over the ugly scuff marks. (Crayola will wash off! I used cheap Playskool crayons from the dollar store.) Then I buffed off the excess crayon with a tissue, and viola!

Why I love it:

Are the shoes perfect? Absolutely not! But they look a whooole lot better than they did. For the month or so before he outgrew them, it was the perfect solution.

I'd love to hear some more solutions for the scuffed synthetic shoe problem. I have a really cute pair of red flats with a scuff on the toe, and it's been really hard to find a crayon that matches the color. If you have any other tips, I'd love to hear them!

Have a tip, trick, or simple helpful hint to share? You are more than welcome to submit your idea here. I'd love to include it in a future post!

Such a bummer about your shoes. That is EXACTLY what happened to my red flats - the first time I wore them I scuffed them on the curb getting out of the car. :(
