10 Comforting Cold-Weather Soups

Oh, how I love soup weather! One consolation to the colder temps is that I can make a delicious, comforting, home-cooked soup to take the chill out of our bones. Sure, we could open a can, but why would we when there are so many tasty homemade recipes? Nothing compares to a steaming pot of homemade soup!

So, what are we waiting for? Dig into some of our favorite comforting cold-weather soups the next time the mercury drops!

Ten Comforting Cold-Weather Soups:

*Please keep in mind that many of these recipes are not mine. If you would like to pin a specific recipe, please click through to the original post. Thank you!*
Butternut Squash Soup from Rah Cha Chow
This Butternut Squash Soup always has a place at our Thanksgiving table. It's also one of my favorites to make if I have a girlfriend over for lunch.

Traditional Minestrone Soup from A Year of Slow Cooking
I still haven't settled if you pronounce it minestrone (like stone) or minestron-ey, but however you say it, this is a great soup to bring to a potluck or serve for a light meal. When I make it, I stir in the tomatoes and cooked pasta shortly before serving.

Beef Stew in the Crock Pot from Weelicious
This stew is incredibly hearty and comforting. It's perfect with a slice of fresh bread. I love the convenience of the crock pot, and it's definitely worth it to brown the meat and deglaze the pan.

Lentil Soup from Orangette
I must confess that I've only made this soup with your average run-of-the-mill lentils because that's what we had on hand. BUT it didn't matter. It was still a delicious lunch!

Spinach Tortellini Soup from Food Network
Oh, this soup is so yummy! While I admit that I haven't made it yet, a friend made it and it's on my must-make list!

White Bean Chicken Chili from Simply Organized
I made this last week and even my bean-hating husband enjoyed it thoroughly! And since the the creaminess comes from pureed cannelini beans, it's dairy-free too! I can guarantee this recipe will make it into our regular rotation this winter.

Crock Pot Taco Chicken Chili from The Comfort of Cooking
I love the convenience of this crock pot variation of traditional chili.

Sausage and Kale Soup from Martha Stewart
We LOVE this recipe so much that I've made it with ham and chicken when we didn't have sausage on hand. In fact, I'm pretty sure this soup is the sole reason Hubby grew kale in the garden this year.

There is no comparison to the canned stuff. You can't beat the comfort of home-made chicken soup, especially when you make the broth yourself!

This is the most popular recipe here at Pinspired Home, and for good reason! Simple, hearty, delicious, and feeds a crowd - a perfect crock pot meal!

Now that I've gone through this list, I can't wait to enjoy a steaming bowl of comfort food! The only question is, which should I make first?

What's your favorite cold-weather soup? Are there any you would you add to the list?

    1. Oh yum! We love beef (venison) stew and chili too! What do you use for your dumplings? I've never found a chicken & dumplings soup I love.
