Menu Plan Monday: 11/10-11/16

Hi, my name is Kim, and I am a soup addict.

Ever since I posted the round-up of our favorite soups last Friday, I've had soup on the brain. And now I'm plotting to make as many as I can over the next few weeks. I'm even branching out and trying some new recipes. I made this yummy 5 Minute Creamy Tomato Soup on Saturday to go with our grilled cheese at lunch and it's definitely a keeper. I doubt I'll ever go back to the condensed stuff again!

Mmm... Soup!

Last week was busier than I expected. Not long after posting our Menu, I got a text from Hubby's uncle saying he was in the area for business and wondered if the Kiddo and I would like to meet him for lunch the next day. Since he's not in our area much, and hadn't been to see our "new" place, we invited him over for dinner that night. I made the Sausage and Kale Soup I had planned for Tuesday and it was a huge hit!

Tuesday afternoon Hubby was able to arrange his schedule so he could go hunting, and he was successful. Most people in our area send a deer to the butcher, but where Hubby grew up hunters did the whole thing themselves. That night he and a friend portioned and wrapped the larger cuts, and the smaller "scrap" pieces went into the refrigerator to grind later. With the grinder attachment for our KitchenAid Stand Mixer, we were able to freeze just under 24 pounds of ground venison (half of which will go to our friend for helping). Having all that venison for meals will be a huge blessing this winter!

Are there any hunting families out there? I was thinking about sharing some of our favorite venison recipes if anyone is interested.

Last Week's Post:

Between feeling a little under the weather, helping with the venison, making pumpkin puree and other various responsibilities and distractions, I only got one post up this week, but I think it's a good one!

This will be a pretty exciting week for me. I'll officially be "30-something" on Wednesday, and then Thursday is the big ultrasound to find out whether our new little peanut will be a boy or a girl. I can't wait!

Do you have anything special going on this week?

  1. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day! I would love some venison recipes. Our friends have a ranch where Dustin has gone hunting pretty often lately. We're hoping for a deer this season, since it's been so long! Any idea how to prepare dove? or any recipes? We have 11 in the freezer waiting to be eaten. Lol

    1. Thank you, sweet friend!
I have absolutely no experience with dove or any other small game. Hubby doesn't bother to hunt that stuff because it's so much work to dress it. I would check with Daniella - she might know.
